The $15 room makeover!

Miss 5 was recently moved in to her own room, as we were hopeful that it would make a difference to her behaviours (explained in earlier posts). I a very happy to report that we have had a massive improvement in behaviour lately, we don’t believe it is entirely thanks to the room change, or any one thing in particular. We believe she has just come to the end of that cycle/phase and things have improved.

Miss 5 and Miss 4 have always shared a room, so we were faced with needing furniture to fill Miss 5’s room. Her room has a large wardrobe so the ‘storage’ type furniture needed to stay in Miss 4’s room where the wardrobe is only small. That left just a bed to go in for Miss 5.

We managed to pick up a desk from the Tender Centre for $5 and two chairs for 50c. From a curbside pile we had picked up a pine entertainment unit.

We removed the glass display door and the smaller solid doors. Then with a little help from FIL & Uncle (oh and some power tools) we set to work cutting one end off! I borrowed FIL’s power sander (which was soooo much fun) to give it an all over sand, then applied few coats of white paint to create a new bookcase for Miss 5.

The desk and chair were painted up with some sample paints that Miss 5 picked out.

At a total cost of $15 Miss 5 now has some very useful & fun furniture that she loves! Every morning she sits at her desk doing her ‘writing’. It is so cute 🙂

(oh and we have one more knob we have to paint and fit to one of the drawers)
