In an earlier post I talked about making some ‘developmental hearts’ or ‘scent hearts’. I got the idea from a local Facebook group and set about making some. Then I started searching for other groups/organisations who needed help with hand-sewn items.
My search led me to Sewing for Charity Australia. I had a look around and joined the Facebook group. I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of. I also joined the SFCNSW Facebook group to get on board with the local team.
I was already in the middle of my project to make the horse feed bags so hadn’t managed to get any other sewing done, but that hadn’t stopped me downloading patterns and making plans on what would be my first project. I knew that I mainly wanted to do things for NICU, and that I wanted to use the fabric pictured above.
There was something about this fabric. I have had it in my stash for years, and despite having two daughters who I made several things for, I had never decided on the perfect project for this.
I started out with some more hearts, using a mixture of backing fabrics, one a solid flannelette and cotton in similar colours. I made 2 sets of 3 hearts, and then moved on to some NICU quilts.
1 quilt in the 55cm x 55cm size and 1 in the 75cm x 55cm size. Then drawstring bags in two sizes, and a medium NICU gown.
Lastly I finally got to make a Flopsie Wabbit, these are so cute! I had been wanting to make one since I first saw someone post about making some.
I was a little dubious to start, they looked tricky. But turned out they were easier than I anticipated. He is ever so cute.
I plan to make more of these, however this lot are all being sent off to make sure that nothing needs changing. I am not sure yet if I will do mixed bundles like this in future, or if I will concentrate on one pattern at a time.
