Little Hearts
I am not going to lie I have spent a lot of lockdown 2021 just browsing the internet, not with anything in particular in mind. Sometimes I stay looking at something for a while and other times I just skim over things not even really paying attention.
A little while back I was looking through some local Facebook groups and a post caught my attention. A lady had been sewing and had mentioned that some more help was needed. She had been sewing ‘Developmental Hearts’ for babies in NICU. These are made from cotton materials, very simple pattern and they are used as an aid to bonding between parents and babies in neonatal intensive care units.
I immediately downloaded the pattern and started sewing. I managed to make 12 on that day and posted them off the very next day. It then led me to look for more opportunities to sew for charities. I was excited to stumble across Sewing for Charity Australia and have since joined a more local Sewing for Charity Australia – NSW facebook group. I look forward to many more projects and posts about this.
The hearts that I made are from a pattern by Life’s Little Treasures Foundation
Developmental Hearts are given to parents whose newborn infants have been admitted to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. The fabric heart is worn against the parent’s skin so that the fabric might absorb the scent of the parent. The heart is placed with the baby in the isolette or crib so the mother is always with her child.
