Care Package
Can we just for a minute talk about TOOOOOOOBS!! These things are amazing, I loved them when they were first around and I love them now they are back. Yes, I know it is for a limited time only, but I am going to enjoy that just for now they are back!
However living in an area in lockdown when they were released presented a problem, actually being able to find them! I had seen the Facebook posts, seen many of my friends posting photos with that all so precious bag in their hands and all I could do was wish! Wish that maybe one day they would turn up on my coles online screen and I would be able to snag a bag with my click and collect order.
I am allowed to shop anywhere within my LGA, however, I couldn’t quite rationalise my need for Toobs into a reasonable excuse to leave my home and go from shop to shop all over the place looking for these little circles of joy. I was only left with one last hope, call my parents 🙂
This fully grown adult (remember my about pic is not true to age haha) called her parents in search of the ability to relive her childhood through eating her favourite snack from back in the day. Of course, because I have super awesome parents who are always happy to help, and who live in a state free to roam and shop hop, they were happy to take up the challenge. I had seen many of my South Australian timeline friends post about where they had found them, so I gave my parents the details, and off they went. As an added request I asked for some Arnotts Yo-Yo biscuits, because believe it or not you can’t get them in NSW!
Several days later I was very excited to receive the care package in the post, 3 packets of each! Not sure how they managed that with the Toobs as most places had placed a 2 pack restriction on them, I just for a moment imagined my mum standing there arguing and pleading with some store manager, explaining that she just quite simply had to have more than 2 packets as her dear daughter really needed these for her mental health and to help her through the months of lockdown to come. But then I thought maybe not all shops had placed a limit on sales, or no one serving them actually knew of any limits, more plausible I guess. But then maybe not too, as I can actually imagine my mother doing just as described above, bless her
It was nicely packaged in my dad’s traditional style, a recycled box with plenty of brown packing tape and a computer-printed label. It was the handwritten word ‘Enjoy’ with a love heart that really made it so very special. My dad sends a lot of parcels all over the place with his little ebay hobbies and the like, but I bet none of them get that extra special touch 🙂
I am not going to lie the first pack of both Toobs and Yo-Yo’s went down way too quickly, we are a family of 5 here after all. The second we savoured for a little longer, making sure to keep the open packs in air-tight containers so we didn’t waste them by allowing them to go stale. We still have one packet of each left, and that I can tell you has been tricky to resist.
I will continue to look for the Toobs online in my local store and hope that I can secure a few more bags before they leave the shelves again for good. Maybe I could suggest that The Smith’s Snackfood Company NOT stop making them? And that Arnotts bring Yo-Yo’s to NSW?
