Art Folder

A while ago I saw a tutorial for a very cool art folder type thingy and really wanted to make it for my Nephew for his 5th birthday. So I set about looking for the fabric I wanted to use (my stash mainly consists of girlie stuff).  This project has run around in my mind for months…and then the other day I realised it was the 1st of March! His birthday is the 11th!!! eeek.

So I knew I had to stop thinking about it, and actually start doing it. Click here for the tutorial link I used, I decided not to use the double sided quilted fabric, mainly cause I didn’t find any when I first started looking..lol.

Here is my finished product, I am happy with how it turned out for  a first attempt at something like this. And I hope my dear nephew is able to over look the few flaws it has 🙂

The inside filled (still need one more book for the other side)

The things I would do differently if I was to make one again :-

  • Wouldn’t use a ‘stiffing’ interfacing on the denim!
  • Change the way I did the pencil holder, for some reason it pulled the edges of the folder in when I put the pencils in.
  • This time I left out the small pocket which should be on the opposite side to the pencils, this was mainly due to me forgetting it (working with an ear infection) until it was too late to sew it on!

Overall I am pretty happy with the result and hope he enjoys it! 🙂

Wow! I love this, what a great idea, I am wondering if I can morph into a sewer…..havent made anything since a paid of hysterical 'Happy Pants' in the 90's, which fell apart as i wore them incidentally. I am inspired by your handiwork though, thanks 😉
