Apple (Peach) Oat Slice
Ok so DS15 helps with the shopping each month, and does a great job. However last month they changed the packaging on the peaches we buy, and accidently he picked up tins of peaches in syrup rather than in natural juice. We used some, but replaced the rest with the right ones this month. So this left me with 2 tins that I didn’t really want to have on my cereal. They are much heavier in syrup. I set about trying to come up with recipes to use them.
This is the first tin used up 🙂
Started with a recipe from Simple Savings forum, posted by Bee for Spicy Apple & Oat slice.. then made variations.
Original Recipe Below (my variations in colour italics)
Spicy Apple and Oat Slice
1 1/2 cups plain flour
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup dessicated coconut
1 teasp ground cinnamon (i used 1/2 cinnamon & 1/4 all spice)
185g butter, melted
400g can pie apple (i used 3/4 of an 825g peaches, drained and mashed)
extra teaspoon ground cinnamon (i didn’t add this)
Preheat oven to moderate 180 deg C. Brush shallow 30 x 20 tin with melted butter, line base and sides with baking paper.
Place flour, oats, sugar, coconut and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl, stir to combine. Make a well in the centre and pour in melted butter. Mix with a wooden spoon until all the ingredients are moist.
Firmly press two-thirds of the mixture into the prepared tin. Place the apple (peach in my recipe) on top, smooth it out with a fork or spatula and sprinkle with extra cinnamon. Crumble remaining mixture over apples, press gently onto the apple with your fingers.
Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and base is crisp. Cool and cut into squares or fingers.

That happens to me all the time with the peaches, nothing worse when you get home and realize you pick up syrup in stead of juice,
Recipe look yum 😀
