Skirt Conversion
A project I have been trying to get to for months is the conversion of 1 dress & 3 skirts into 2 skirts.
The floral pumpkin patch dress was a gift a few years ago, and was a favourite, very sad day when it would no longer fit either of the girls. Couldn’t quite bring ourselves to get rid of it, so it sat in their cupboard. The colourful skirt is just a favourite because of the mix of colours and lightweight fabric. However it was starting to need repair, and not in good enough condition to wear as it was. So with an excess of denim skirts in the drawers we decided it might be an idea to try and combine in to two skirts.
Today’s attempt was with the colourful skirt and 1 denim skirt.
I cut the skirt about half way down and then did a gathering stitch around. Cut the denim skirt just below the pockets, and then joined the two together. With some of the left over colourful fabric I made a belt to go through the belt loops.
This is by no means perfect, in fact if you get too close it is pretty bad…lol. But it is done and the girls can wear it, and the love it. Now I just need to find time to do the other so they don’t have to fight over this one!! Next time I will take more care and time when joining the two together, as this is where it looks worse, I didn’t really pin it very well, and you can see a lot of the gathering etc. But hey, it was just an experiment 🙂
