The Cape….

DS17 is known for his ‘epic tasks’ and his latest one for me was his cape!  He had wanted a cape to wear to shows for a long time, and we have made a ‘sort of one’ a wile back using patchwork formed by old t-shirts of his. Memorabilia from his childhood and shows etc. However his longing for a true cape still lingered.

When browsing spotlight one day he came across some black fabric that the liked, so it was bought and put away for the day we got to ‘that cape’. On another trip to spotlight on a different day DS17 noticed patterns were half price, so of course he decided to browse for ‘that cape’ pattern. A pattern was found, bought and you guessed it, put away.

Well ‘the day’ came and I decided to start the cape. Yep it was epic, but not quite as bad as I first thought. I had never really used patterns before, for clothes, so this was a learning curve for me. And DS I might add, as I insisted he be part of the epic task.

Rather than hem the bottom we decided to edge it with a green satin ribbon, and the hook for the button was made from a shoelace with stars on it, teamed with a black button also with stars. ‘The cape’ is finished, and I feel accomplished that I am learning to use patterns 🙂

Can’t remember the exact pattern name/number/brand, but if I locate it I will update this post with the detail.

Here is the finished product….
